Sunset Bay State Park
Our next adventure is to one of our favorite beach campgrounds Sunset Bay State Park. With very private, old-fashioned paved pads, it takes you back in time. Some camping sites are difficult to fit into if you have a larger RV, so be sure to check with Reserve America for additional details. There is over 25 full hook up sites for $28.00 a night, 30 electric and water for $26.00, 65 tent sites for $19.00 and 8 really cozy yurt sites for $40.00 a night. Beautiful trees and hedges for privacy separate all sites, including fire rings and picnic tables. Each camping loop includes clean restrooms with free showers. For non-registered campers you can use the showers for $2.00.
Everyday there are scheduled outdoor activities and programs, which we have thoroughly enjoyed. Saturday a walk to the beach with a talk about SAND. Have you ever looked closely at sand??? Yesterday, we met at the Cape Arago trail-head, guided by ranger Zoe to the tide pools. Now, you are saying BORING, well not in the least, do you know what a gumbo chiton is.IMG_8277 Well we found several and they are fascinating, ranger Zoe guided us to the end of the spit to whale watch and sure enough, there was a female gray feeding in the surf, we must have watched her for over an hour, so amazing.
Later in the day we took our Kayak out into the Sunset Bay, the tide was at the end of high tide so the current was slack, safer that way. We paddled around the rocks out into the ocean with scenic views of Cape Arago lighthouse. This is the first time we have ever taken our Nu Canoe into the ocean; it handled the rolling swells beautifully. I would highly recommend the Nu Canoe for safety and stability, especially in white water conditions.

Today hiking the Sunset Bay trail-head along the beach to Geocache and view the scenery from the cliffs above the Bay. I hope that we see more whales and I forgot to mention the sea lions are abundant. Gardeners Cottage Open House tour at Historic Shore acres gardens today at 1 p.m. and then off to kayak again in the surf, fun, fun, fun.
I would highly recommend Sunset Bay State Park if you are lucky enough to reserve a site for a week or longer you won’t be disappointed.

So for now See You JUST AROUND THE BEND
